to myspace or not to myspace [Oct. 24th, 2006|12:19 am]
i'm sorry livejournal, but i feel so disconnected from people when i post here.  no one visits, no one reads, and i can't read a lot of people's myspace pages because they have them locked.  although i ended up hating myspace and its stupid politics and stalker-like members, i miss it.  boo-urns.  what's a girl to do?

why? [Oct. 18th, 2006|09:29 pm]

[mood | annoyed]

today when i was driving home from erin mills town centre, some 30+ year old balding guy  pulled up beside me at the lights @ erin mills/dundas.  he was with a friend and was motioning for me to undo my window.  since he was on the passenger's side and i do not have automatic anything in my car, i mouthed "what" to him.  he blew me a kiss and mouthed back "you're hot".  the light thankfully turned and i sped up, but he kept beside me, and when a car was in the way, he passed it to keep pace until i had to make a turn at which point he honked at me.  why are guys so gross/stupid, because he's either a horndog or it was a dare.  ew.

I typically go to the bank on my way to work if I need money, which just happens to be @ 5:30am.  Usually, because of the time, no one else is around, but this morning there was a man in the bank.  I went in and smiled at him, then proceeded with my banking.  When I left, he leaned out of the window of his truck and thanked me for smiling at him since it brightened his whole day.  It was really random, but really nice.

"I've been told that getting a ride on my back is much like riding a dinosaur" [Oct. 6th, 2006|03:25 pm]
[mood | happy]

I was supposed to go on a search for human remains (as a volunteer with one of my profs) the next two weekends.  I just got informed the search is being postponed until spring because it is currently bow-hunting season and our prof does not want us to get shot.  This made me laugh lots.

Also, I got a job.  WOOT!  I can finally leave the ice business (although I'll probably work here part time so that I can afford to move out soonish) and become a Clinical Research Coordinator Assistant.  Thanks to Dan for letting me know and referring me.  Huzzah, I'll still be working with one of the members of my brother's crazy clan 'o friends.  When will the madness end?

Finally, is there any way to move cities closer together?  Peterborough is awfully far away and just happens to be the home of some pretty cool people I know.  Damn the Kawarthas!  But hooray for people who only have school 3 days a week.

All in all, it's been a good/interesting few weeks.

another point form update [Jul. 5th, 2006|12:18 pm]
My life in the last few weeks:

I FINALLY graduated, first person in the family to graduate with a science degree, which is why I think everyone made such a big deal about it.

I have seen a lot of movies, thankfully liking them all in some way or another.  Although Nacho Libre is the weirdest thing ever.

I have worked a lot of 14 hour days, but it's not bad because I get along so well with most of the people I work with.

I had a tire blowout while driving on the 407 @ 5:30 in the morning, which sucked, but it showed me that I have no less than 4 people I can call when in such a situation that will help me, which was nice.

I bashed my head off of the shower faucet and almost gave myself a concussion.  clutz+small shower+no glasses = pain.

I'm sure lots more has happened, but it's obviously not important enough for me to remember and share with the few people who occasionally log into livejournal these days.

Until next brief update (I'll try to make it more interesting next time)

book launch (& other tales of woe...) [Jun. 9th, 2006|05:09 am]
So my book launch didn't go exactly as I planned it would, but ended up being better for me then I ever could have imagined.  The date, in my opinion, was poorly chosen (6/6/06) and tempted fate.  And, true to form, bad things did happen, but we'll get to that later.  The day started by me driving downtown (Imade it to Queen/Spadina before I could go no further) which is something I've never done and never thought I could do.  But it comes in the wake of doing a lot of things out of my character, the main ones being travelling alone and driving my company's service vehicle (a blue industrial sized van) back from north of Whitby on the weekend.

Anyways, Edward was my companion for the duration of the long day.  We made it to the Drake 15 minutes before showtime and absolutely nothing was set up.  Not to worry, the staff there kicked into hight gear and had the furniture (a mixture of white vinyl benches and lawn chairs) set up in no time.  It started @ 5 pm, but no one really came out till around 7.  That's when my posse started growing.  First it was Nathalie (& Geoff), Diana (& Zach) and Rene, and five minutes later Nicki showed up.  Then the readings started and I couldn't help but think that if this was as boring for me as it was for my friends who have no connection to anyone else there, I feel for them.

After the first set, I went to grab Nicki a book, looked up and saw four sets of familiar eyes staring at me.  I stared back for a full minute before I realized that they belonged to me "long lost" friends, who I pretty much haven't had contact with in 3 years - we last met at one of them's baby shower.  I started with the "Oh my God's!" and the hugging and we decided to go upstairs because more readings were about to begin and we wanted to talk.  That's when I saw my brother, his fiance and Neil.  So there ended up being 14 people there to support me and I didn't even read.

My posse left group by group and Edward and I returned to the launch downstairs only to find out that a girl had fallen and hit her head off the concrete stairs.  She was bleeding and couldn't breathe.  An ambulance took her away.  The organizer of the event also got up on stage to remind everyone that the night was about her, more of that here, but in the end, I had a good time if only to see the people I haven't seen in weeks/years.

viva las vegas! [May. 25th, 2006|06:26 pm]

I got back from Vegas on Tuesday. It was awesome. I have to say that I didn't think I would, but I absolutely love that place. Screw Florida, when I retire, I'm heading to the desert.

While there, I went to a Vegas-style show, casino-hopped, shopped, won some money, went to the Grand Canyon, dangled 866 ft. over the strip, drank before noon, hung out with some Trekkies and had a lot of fun.

ANYWAYS,

You Are Animal

A complete lunatic, you're operating on 100% animal instincts.
You thrive on uncontrolled energy, and you're downright scary.
But you sure can beat a good drum.
"Kill! Kill!"

heh. i think they got it wrong. i see myself as more of a ralph/beaker hybrid.

one Christmas, many moons ago, I decorated the tree and house all by myself because I didn't like the way my brother did it. My mom decided that since I did such a good job, I get the same honour bestowed upon me every year.

DIE, CHRISTMAS TREE, DIE!! Oh how I loathe thee. Sure you look all pretty and nice, but you scratch up my arms and face when assembling you. I can't wait to shove you back into your box on Jan.2 and jam you into our dark, damp crawlspace for another year.

ha! [Nov. 25th, 2005|03:53 pm]
OK. So I have sent my book to the printers. And there's a funny thing I learned about the Canadian Government in the process. As a requirement, all books published in Canada are given cataloguing info from the National Library. Mine was taking a long time to process so my prof called and spoke to the guy. That's right, THE GUY - there's only 1 person that does this, he IS the deparment (TYPICAL!!). And he's French and crazy. Which explains this:
- in the application we were asked to summarize the book and told by our publisher that the way you summarize the book can get you orders
- I put something like this "a collection of 12 short stories chronicling the lives of a young Chinese woman and a young, gay Chinese male and their struggle to fit in told through the eyes of a close friend" Cheesy and long, yes, but the more descriptive, the more the orders, right? So, somehow this puts my book under the following category: "Chinese Canadian teenagers." Talk about being lost in translation... I predict some Chinese groups in Canada being disappointed.
